Whitstable Easter Egg run - Sunday 16 March

About 1030 on a damp and drizzly Sunday morning, eleven Rat members on eight bikes, some decorated, left the Maidstone shop for the WTR annual egg run. The pack took the A20 to Charing and then onto the A252 and A251 to Faversham. Here they picked up the A2 and then the A299 Thanet Way stopping at Ernie's café for lunch. Once refreshed there was a short ride to the harbour car park in Whitstable to meet up with other riders from around Kent.

The weather had taken its toll as there were only a hand full of bikes there. Shame really as this was in aid of charity, all the donated Easter Eggs and toys going to St Nicholas Hospice in Canterbury. Photographers from the local papers were there and took an instant interest in Chrissy's rabbit which was strapped to her bike. After a few photo's to shouts of "What page will it be on" it was Keith's turn to join Chrissy. Julie and Ian didn't escape either as there chicken in a basket got the attention.

The weather continued to get worse although by 1400 there were about 500 bikes in the car park. The ride left and followed the coast road through Whitstable and Herne Bay. The cross wind was terrible but all got though safely. The ride then turned in land picking up the Thanet Way to St Nicholas roundabout. A right turn here took the ride along the A28 to Canterbury and the Hospice. Despite the bad weather the route was lined in many places by on lookers waving and wishing us well. At least that what we thought they were doing!

On arrival at the Hospice we were met by staff and children with big smiles that got bigger as the toys and eggs were taken in. Somehow the wet and windy weather was worth it. A nice hot cupper ended the day before everybody went their own way (funny that rings a bell).

Thanks to the WTR who organised the run, Chrissy and Keith who organised the RAT run and Jane for most of the photo's.
