Treasure Hunt 2009

The Laguna Rat pack treasure hunt took place on Sunday 10th of May. We met up at Bedgbury Pinetum for a cuppa and to sort our self?s into teams, I must say the car park was a bit of a challenge for the Rocket (very loose surface) but we overcame, the weather was lovely and sunny just right. There were 14 of us plus Ian and Julie and we formed into our respective teams and set off with Ian and Julie supervising.
Our first clue took us just a short ride to Rudyard Kippling?s home Bateman?s in Burwash where we had to find what was written on the top of the memorial outside the church. Then we were off to that place that Harold and William made famous in 1066 ? Battle, where we had to find the name of the pub on a famous hill which of course was the Senlac Inn, no time to stop and sample the beers as we were then off to the lovely Cinque Port of Rye, famous for defending us against the French now famous for a good fish and chip supper-yum. Here we had to name the only existing gateway to the town, which was of course Landgate. Our next clue took us to see the little trains at New Romney, our route took us across the marsh road where we encountered some wind turbines which we had to count, all 26 of them, eerie things. Before going into New Romney we The Rocket Team there were three of us, stopped for lunch at a little Chef to re fuel, once we were duly topped up we rolled into New Romney little train station, collected a time table and rocketed off to Appledore where we had to find the date on the village sign ? 200 AD. Our next clue took us to Biddenden the home of the famous conjoined twins; we had to find their names, which were Mary and Eliza. Now our next clue was a bit of a brain teaser ? roll on to Vendelnor, after a bit of grey mater squeezing we came up with Rolvenden, here we had to find what was displayed above a motor museum which was of course a Penny Farthing bicycle, I wonder what that would go like with a 2.3 power plant installed, I guess we will never know. Our last clue took us to a lake café at Hawkhust for a welcome cuppa and add up the scores, oh and another dodgy loose car park surface, but hey ho we didn?t fall off.
The aim was to get round in the shortest distance without incurring any penalties and Tara the Rocket Team won.
Many thanks to Ian and Julie that was a great ride and a great day out.
